Mind the gap. 20 March 2004 So I was happily working on the DBQ I have to make for my European History AP class when Kim called and asked if I wanted to go to see RotK with her and Justine later on. Of course, I said yes, despite being a bit sad that they hadn't really wanted to go see Eternal Sunshine with me the night before. We went to the movie at 4:10, and when it finished, it was quite rainy and yucky outside... we lost the car for a few seconds but then I managed to find it and called shotgun. As I got in I thought to myself, "If Kim gets in an accident, I'll get hit since I'm in the passenger seat." Wonderful bit of intuition there. ... The light turned green, she was turning left into Metro Centre Blvd., some dude in a freaking BLACK SUV (we used to have this old joke that a black SUV being a Nazgul) was turning right, she (according to the policewoman) 'failed to yield the right of way', and my side got smashed... Kim's car spiralled into a car that was waiting to turn right... and suddenly I found myself blind because my glasses had flown off with a pain under my eye and a deflated, limp airbag on the right side of my face. Thank God for that side door airbag. Luckily enough, there happened to be a police car right behind the SUV that was 'transporting a prisoner' (!!!), so the guy radioed in for another officer and this woman came. Kim had to fill out all the forms and crap... she was so shaken up. I'm glad J and I were there because we were able to get her to not worry about the repercussions for the moment and just focus on what she had to do. We were all okay, but Kim's car and the SUV both had to be towed. Her front right wheel and door are pretty much crap, so it doesn't look good in that respect. And hour and a half later we were at Kim's house. The policewoman had pretty much forced us to let her drive us home rather than wait for Kimmy's dad, so we had some interesting conversations on the way back.... but let me tell you, I never want to sit in the back of a cop car again! There's no leg room and you can't move... I didn't even have a fully functioning seatbelt. What an oxymoron - not wearing a seatbelt in a police car. I found that amusing. So the woman talked to Kim's dad, then he drove us home... Kim has to go to traffic court in April. =( I wasn't really hurt at first, but now I'm really getting sore in my neck and shoulders, and my head is kind of aching. But it could have been much worse. I'm just thankful nobody was seriously hurt. As I told Kim, I had to make jokes during the whole thing because that's my coping mechanism; my Pippin complex. If something is wrong I need to add humour to lighten the situation up and get everybody a bit more comfortable. I keep my head in an emergency but I also just HAVE to keep my sense of humour as well... Sooo... yeah. During the movie I kept thinking of a million things to write about, but the whole incident/accident pretty much jarred them out of my brain (quite literally). Mum's trying to make me take some painkillers but I think that's quite pointless because they'll have worn off by the time I wake up... I'll take something in the morning if I need to. Anyway, I'm tired... good night to all. |
