Mind the gap.

16 June 2004

Well, I figured I ought to record a few reflections on my various classes and such from my junior year... so here we go.

Period One, English III Honours: At the beginning of the year, our class was so big we had to split it in two. Most of my friends switched to Mrs. Parente’s class, but Mettie, Steph, and Meg were left with me in Muto’s class. The BroP was evil and annoying throughout most of the year, although she left for a few months in the middle so she could ‘squeeze out’ her baby. We were lucky enough to have a semi-cool (although quite strange) long-term sub, Mr. H. He liked Potc, LotR, and let us watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail in class, so we liked him. He also told us amusing and semi-dirty stories (such as the one about the squirrel and wives stealing nuts) occasionally. Unfortunately, once Muto’s baby was a month or two old, she returned to us in all her post-BroP glory. We read 1984 and she continued to ask us annoying obvious questions, but somehow we managed to survive through the year.

Period Two, European History Honours AP: Well, let's put it this way: This course was NOT taught with any semblance to the way an AP class *should* be taught. Mr. D is a fun guy and all, but he just doesn't buckle down enough for AP. Not to mention that he was horrible at returning papers, gave us only 2 or 3 practise DBQ's throughout the ENTIRE year, and randomly would show up late for class. But, we did get to order Chinese food at the end of the year, so all is well. Heh. As for passing the AP exam... Lord only knows.

Period Three, Gym/4th Quarter Health: Well, gym was gym. Health was nothing, since Campbell taught it and he basically said we'd do nothing the whole quarter. We wrote a few tiny papers and did an STD project, but throughout most of the quarter I either read in class or did homework. *shrug*

Period Four, Elementary Functions Honours AP: Despite hating maths, Mrs. Lytle was a good teacher and I did really well this year. I still don't like maths at all, but I'm no longer as afraid of it as I used to be. So that's good!

Period Five, Chemistry II Honours AP: Although Stou forced me to take this class, I ended up really enjoying it. Chem can be really interesting, but I don't think I want to pursue it as a career. The class was great... I liked most of the people in it, and of course I love Stou. She is the funniest, most random and crazy person ever. She loved the butter churn the class gave her at the end of the year and we're all invited to come to a party over the summer to see it in her new kitchen. After two years of chemistry with Stou, I'm going to miss her class next year. Unfortunately, I doubt I passed the AP exam, seeing as very few people do. :-[

Period Six, Spanish IV Honours: Mrs. Dibiase was such a nice person and teacher that it was impossible not to like this class, even though I've always loved Spanish anyway. We learned a LOT of vocabulary this year and mostly rehashed verb tenses, but it was fun anyway.

Period Seven, Physics Honours: Wow. Mr. Paquin is a very cool, laidback, bad-corny-joke-telling teacher, but Sarah, Steph and I were tight with him. I learned a lot of interesting things in Physics, although I find the theories about space/time, string theory, and relativity most interesting. It's just crazy when you begin to think about it. It was a good class, though his theory problems were killer on the tests. Drawing random pictures of "Kitties in Kemistry, Ajents in Aljebra, Aliens in Astrophysics, ETC ETC ETC" on the whiteboard. Hopefully I didn't ruin those pictures...

Academic Decathlon: What can I say? We had some major problems with a certain slow-speaking boy halfway during the year, but we got through it and took 5th place overall and 3rd in the Superquiz at the competition. I medaled three times, we went to Boston, we formed a family, and it was a good year for AcaDeca.

Friendwise: Well, I had a few minor falling-outs with Nicole at the beginning of the year. The hedgehog issue with Sarah was uncomfortable at one point, and minor tensions abounded all throughout the year. But now, at the end of it all, nothing was really all that bad.

In General: The teachers' contract, or lack thereof, made it difficult for us to go on any fieldtrips or have afterschool clubs. The teachers weren't even allowed to go to our Honours Night. That was the one big problem with the school year, but HOPEFULLY they'll resolve it and get a contract by next year... my senior year... OR ELSE. Hah.

*sigh* Yeah... in a nutshell, that's it. No major family issues besides my uncle's illness, but there you go.
